Richard Hollinger, Head of Special Collections on behalf of Folger Library accepted the working papers for Maria Holt’s & Elizabeth King’s book The Death of Maine Yankee: Antinuclear Activists’ Adventures 1969-1996 published by Just Write Books of Topsham. The writing, graphs, letters and even a Geiger counter used by the Midcoast Monitoring Group will be added to Folger Library’s Special Collections at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine.
According to Hollinger who met with Maria Holt this summer,“These source documents will be important to anyone who will be researching nuclear power production in the U.S.”

Holt & King’s book The Death of Maine Yankee tells the story of the people who protested, monitored the plant and then fought to close Maine Yankee Nuclear Power plant. With science, charts and background for this book provides the reader with valuable insight into the actions of antinuclear activists.
Maria Holt shared her appreciation of Folger Library’s accepting of the book’s source documents, “I’m gratified that Folger Library at the University of Maine finds this material worthy of its collection. I’m particularly happy that U. of Maine is collecting the papers since I attended there as a pre-med student many years ago.

Folger Library’s Special Collections Department was established in 1970 as a repository for Maine-related material. Virtually all available printed bibliographical, historical, and descriptive works on the state as well as literary titles by Maine authors are housed in this department. Books, pamphlets, state documents, and other forms of printed material provide extensive coverage of Maine’s cities, towns, counties, people, and institutions.
The Death of Maine Yankee: Antinuclear Activists’ Adventures can be purchased for $19.95 at Gulf of Maine Books, other local Maine booksellers, jstwrite.com and at amazon.com.

What our Customers say

Nancy E. Randolph, JWB owner, markets my titles on a wide scale. She also sets up book signings. I find it infinitely more enjoyable and rewarding to work with this Maine-based publisher than to deal with national publishers from out-of-state.
Finally, JWB does not publish just any aspiring author. Randolph is very selective, accepting only material that she is convinced will sell. I highly recommend JWB to any author.
Tom Seymour, author of Wild Plants of Maine and many other titles.
I just had these decals made [with my logo]. Every day I look at the logo you created from my drawn ideas, I smile. It is strong and me. Thank you.
