Publishing Process at Just Write Books

Each book that is created at Just Write Books goes through several steps. They are:

  1. Consulting with all materials available including, text, illustrations (whether they be photos, drawings, tables, etc.), cover ideas, author's purpose, proposals of intended audience, author bios, permissions for any of the forgoing not owned by the author/publisher, and anything else that needs to be considered when discussing the book project.
  2. A project plan (very rough) is developed. This normally outlines tasks required for the author and for the publisher to begin the book process. (This also includes a rough estimate about the costs involved in getting the book ready to publish.)
Just Write Books has claimed the title "collaborative publishing" to note the fact that the author does invest in preparing the book for publishing. There are costs involved and the author pays those costs.
  3. Next the book (still in manuscript form) is sent out to one of several copy editors contracted with our company.
  4. Upon return of the manuscript to our company, we sit down with the author and review any edits, comments, suggested changes, etc.
  5. The author takes the mark-up and makes corrects/edits as needed as finalized in step #4 and returns both the markups from step #4 and a new electronic document to our company. There are times when step #5 is performed by our company.
  6. Again the manuscript is reviewed by Just Write Books. If there are no other problems seen at this time; the manuscript is set in pages. Also the cover is designed including the author's blurb and the book blurb.
  7. A complete proof including a color printout of the book cover is presented to the author for a complete review.
  8. The author returns the proof with markups to Just Write Books. In today's world of technology and relatively inexpensive printing edits are written directly on a printed copy of the book.
  9. After another meeting with the author our company makes any edits/corrections/changes to the electronic book--both on the cover and the interior pages.
  10. The final proof is provided to the author. Now the author must be sure that all errors are found and any changes made now or additional charges will be incurred because the next step after this round of corrections/changes is:
  11. A proof book is produced. This book is called a proof and is used to ensure that the printing instructions (embedded in the electronic documents) are carried out to produce a quality soft cover book.
  12. The author and publisher agree that the book is ready to print and books are ordered. The book is officially published!
  13. Finally, information about the book, author and reviews might be added to this website.
